Hey, my name is Tyler Ruhd. I grew up on a farm in between Brandt & Clear Lake, South Dakota. I have two younger brothers, as well as a dog, cat, and a ferret at home with mom and dad. In high school I was in choir (3 all state’s), football (1 all conference), basketball (2 all conference), baseball (1 state appearance), and oral interp. I graduated from Deuel High School in 2003 and attended Dakota State University in the fall of that year. During college I was involved in many organizations including Student Activities Board, New Student Orientation, Delta Mu Delta, Student Ambassadors, choir, & intramurals. I graduated Dakota State University in 2007 with a degree in Business Management.

Some of my hobbies include fishing, working cattle, hunting, relaxing on the lake, grilling, softball, and just hanging out.

Territory: Northeastern South Dakota

Favorite part of DSU?  My favorite part about DSU is the overall campus.  Coming from a graduating class of thirty-four I was not interested in a huge college. I came to DSU on a whim and never left. The relationship you build with your professors and advisors is something to cherish.

Favorite part of Madison? My favorite part about Madison is the people. The community is a close knit community that has a help your neighbor mentality. There is always something to do in Madison from multiple restaurants, fast food places, bowling alley, movie theater, two lakes, community center, museums, Prairie Village, and Pamida.

What super hero would you be? If I had to pick a superhero that I would be and why I would be Shaggy off of the Scooby Doo gang. All he had to do was eat and play with a talking Scooby all day long. Plus he has caught more bad guys than any other super hero without any superpowers.

What kind of deodorant do you use? I use Old Spice “Fresh” deodorant.

Why did you become an admission specialist? I became an admission specialist because it was a step before the process of New Student Orientation. I student coordinated the New Student Orientation program for multiple years when I was a student at Dakota State. I had TONS of fun getting to know the incoming freshman, but unfortunately   I had to actually go to school when everything was done. Now, I get to do it for my job, and not take classes while doing it.

As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up? As a kid I wanted to be EVERYTHING under the sun. I wanted to be a farmer, rancher, bull rider, bull fighter, teacher, coach, pretty much anything that I had seen growing up I wanted to be. As I grew up, I wanted to be a mentor to someone. I didn’t know what kind of mentor, but I just wanted to be a go-to guy. Now, everything has panned out cause I’m the go-to guy for any junior or senior in high school for guidance in college decisions.

If family ties, money etc. were not an issue, where in the world would you live? If family ties, money, etc. weren't an issue, I would want to live in Champery, Switzerland. At the end of my high school career I had the opportunity to travel Europe with a group called the Midwest Ambassadors. This was an awesome experience. I’ve met lifelong friends as well as lifelong memories. In Chapery I woke up and it was about 60 degrees out, which is perfect for me cause I’m warm blooded, but I went out on the balcony and seen a snow capped mountain with four waterfalls coming out the side. It was awesome.

Favorite sports team? I don’t really have a favorite sports team. I follow players more than the teams. Jerry Rice was my idol growing up. I also like hard hitting d-backs. Romanowski, Lynch, Polamalu to name a few. Its kinda cool when you see someone get decleated, just as long as nobody gets hurt…seriously. I would have liked to see Walker Payton slice and dice, also I wanted to see Barry Sanders continue his career longer than he did, but hey he’s still walking. Some other guys I like/liked watching are Joe Montana, Brett Farve, Steve Tasker, Tim Dwight, “The Fridge” William Perry, Hines Ward, Chris Carter, Randy Moss, and many more. I would have to go through my football card collection to name them all.

I hope if you guys have any questions at all.
