Title: Admissions Specialist

College is an extremely fun and educational time of your life, but the choices and the process can be a little bit overwhelming.  That’s where I come in… I’m Erica Morris, Admissions Specialist here at Dakota State University.   I originally grew up on the other side of the Missouri River in Northwestern South Dakota in a little town (or you could call it a “village”) called Bison.  I went to Bismarck, ND for my first year of college to become a nurse, then transferred to Black Hills State University and received degrees in both Mass Communication with an emphasis in Public Relations and Speech Communication.  So, the college confusion you may be experiencing is still fresh in my mind and I can help!

I also keep busy with my hobbies which include photography, playing Nintendo Wii, riding our Harley with my husband, and I’m dabbling in riding bicycle at the moment, but we’ll see how long that lasts!

So, here are some factoids about myself, so you can get to know who this mysterious admissions specialist really is!

Territory: Western, Central, and Southeastern South Dakota

Favorite part of DSU?  Even though it is only my first year at DSU, I feel like I am already part of the “family.”  All the faculty and staff make a person feel welcome and like an important part of Dakota State.  I remember chatting with Dr. Knowlton the second day of work and thought, “Wow, I’m already ‘in’ with president!”

Favorite part of Madison? The trees and the humidity (yes, I said humidity)

What super hero would you be? I would want to be Rogue from X-Men. She can absorb memories, skills, and powers by touching someone.  I guess this would only be helpful if I could find other super heroes.  So if you know any, drop me a line.

What kind of deodorant do you use? Dove GoFresh

Favorite sports team? Kyle Bush.  I know he’s just a one guy, but he does have a pit crew!

As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up? In kindergarten, I wanted to be an archeologist AND a cheerleader (Every girl wanted to be a cheerleader, but I was only one that combined it with archeologist.  Goooo King Tut!)

If family ties, money etc. were not an issue, where in the world would you live? I would most likely live in Hawaii.  Cliché, I know, but there is so much there I want to go back and do: surf, hula, surf, build a sand castle, surf… so mainly surf.

Why did you become an admission specialist? I love talking to people and helping them out.  Admissions had both those two qualities built into it: I can talk to people about the college experience and help them in preparing for one the most important adventures of their life.  I could not think of a better way to use what I love doing!

If I have peaked your interest, drop me a line at 1-888-DSU-9988 or email me at erica.morris@dsu.edu. I can try to meet up with you when I’m at your high school or we can schedule on-campus visit!  Either way, I’m here to help you along in one of the greatest chapters in your life, being a college student!
