DSU Excels at State PBL Competition

Dakota State University students took home awards and accolades as well as leadership positions from the South Dakota Phi Beta Lamdba (PBL) State Spring Leadership Conference. The conference was held in Pierre in April.

DSU had 21 students and 2 advisors attending the conference, the largest contingent from any college or university present for the third consecutive year. Dakota State also regained the leadership of the state PBL organization when Andrea Lindberg was elected State Treasurer and Jennifer Thoreson was elected State President.

DSU took home a record thirteen 1st place, ten 2nd place, and eight 3rd place honors in competition with other chapters from ten universities and institutions. Seventeen DSU students placed in the top three in at least one individual or team event and earned the right to compete at the National PBL Conference in Denver this summer.

The students competed in individual and team events that included C++ Programming, Information Management, Networking Concepts, and Marketing. The performance events require an oral presentation and a written test. Judges for the competitions are drawn from the Pierre business community, as well as from the state government and legal systems.

DSU PBL advisor Dan Talley said, "As you look at the results, notice the wide range of subjects in which our students competed and the success enjoyed by students in our major programs. The success of our students in these information systems, business, and technology skill areas reaffirms our success in the pursuit of the DSU mission."
