Step By Step Instructions for International Students

Track one--- TOEFL score below 213 or no TOEFL score

  1. Make application at least 6 months in advance. Use the on-line application and follow the instructions following submission of the form including sending transcripts, Certification of Finances, and the application fee. No waivers allowed.
  2. Upon acceptance and issuance of the I-20 by the university (the document required by the U.S. government for students to apply for a visa), check the requirements of the U.S. embassy located in your country. Make an appointment at the embassy to interview for the visa.
  3. Notify the International Programs office of your arrival date and time. Transportation is provided by the university from Sioux Falls, South Dakota about one hour distance from Madison.
  4. Testing on arrival to determine the level of study. If English as a Second Language is required, you will enter the Language Institute either on a full-time or part-time basis. If part-time, then you may take a limited number of university-level courses at the same time as the ESL.

University Housing and food sevice are required for students under age 21. All others may choose to live on campus or off campus.
